Rupert Murdoch's divorce from third wife Wendi Deng spurred rumors that Blair was the cause

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair's spokesperson denied rumors of a romantic relationship with Wendi Deng, which some speculate caused her recently-announced divorce from media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
"If you are asking if they are having an affair, the answer is no," a Blair representative told The Hollywood Reporter Friday.

With the surprise news Thursday that News Corp. head Murdoch would be divorcing his wife of 14 years — who famously blocked a pie being thrown at her husband — the Internet quickly began to buzz about what was to cause. Murdoch biographer Michael Wolff, the author of a 2012 article for the Guardian about the Murdoch family's ties to Tony Blair (among other things, he is the godfather of their two children), spurred speculation, tweeting Thursday, "Wendi and Rupert: I'm hearing the WHY, the big reveal, the scandal details, could come tomorrow."

As Gawker noted , "Wendi Deng Tony Blair" became a popular search term on Google soon after the divorce announcement.

Blair's denial is unlikely to silence rumors of an affair causing Murdoch and Deng's divorce. MySpace co-founder Chris DeWolfe and Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt both also reportedly have close relationships with Deng, and have been targets for the Internet rumor mill as well.
