Who Enjoys Sex More, Men or Women?

Yes I did place the same thread on the Phora, but for different reasons. Here it goes, though:

I think women have good reason to hide that they enjoy it more, and I also think that Christian and post-Christian culture has changed popular opinion on this matter. The ancient Greeks, as is clear from numerous myths, texts, and recorded casual asides, believed that women are "fuck-crazy" sexually obsessed anarchic beasts. Modern people believe otherwise, first based on Christian-Germanic cultural assumptions, then on the secularized variety of these, and more recently at least among some justifying it with evolutionary theory (that accounts only for the behavior of Western post-Christian women). Although it should be mentioned that through this new science, if pursued properly, a few have been made able to see the sexually obsessive and uncontrollable aspect of the female psyche:

(as clear a look into the dark heart of women as any...)

But this is an ancient and interesting question. Consider the background:

In a separate episode, Tiresias was drawn into an argument between Hera and her husband Zeus, on the theme of who has more pleasure in sex: the man, as Hera claimed; or, as Zeus claimed, the woman, as Tiresias had experienced both. Tiresias replied "Of ten parts a man enjoys one only." Hera instantly struck him blind for his impiety. Zeus could do nothing to stop her, but he did give Tiresias the gift of foresight and a lifespan of seven lives.

Here is the original, from Ovid,

Bk III:316-338 The judgement of Tiresias

While these things were brought about on earth because of that fatal oath, and while twice-born Bacchus’s cradle remained safe, they say that Jupiter, expansive with wine, set aside his onerous duties, and relaxing, exchanging pleasantries, with Juno, said ‘ You gain more than we do from the pleasures of love.’ She denied it. They agreed to ask learned Tiresias for his opinion. He had known Venus in both ways.

Once, with a blow of his stick, he had disturbed two large snakes mating in the green forest, and, marvellous to tell, he was changed from a man to a woman, and lived as such for seven years. In the eighth year he saw the same snakes again and said ‘Since there is such power in plaguing you that it changes the giver of a blow to the opposite sex, I will strike you again, now.’ He struck the snakes and regained his former shape, and returned to the sex he was born with.

As the arbiter of the light-hearted dispute he confirmed Jupiter’s words. Saturnia, it is said, was more deeply upset than was justified and than the dispute warranted, and damned the one who had made the judgement to eternal night. But, since no god has the right to void what another god has done, the all-powerful father of the gods gave Tiresias knowledge of the future, in exchange for his lost sight, and lightened the punishment with honour.

Who enjoys it more then?

Obviously, women enjoy sex more; compared to the physically weaker and unaesthetic sex, men are relatively sexually frigid and nonorgasmic creatures who are quickly and easily sated. The problem with modern, endocrinological and physiological analyses of differential strength of sex drive between "gender" is that only one dimension of sexuality is considered, that of impulse. Now, insomuch as the constant production of testosterone regulates sexual motivation on a neurobiological level and that this is complemented by the dopaminergic receptors of the limbic system, it is the male who possesses the greater impulse towards intercourse, if measured in terms of quotidian frequency. This is an evolutionary adaptation which makes sense, given the fact that a single male can impregnate thousands of females, whereas females are restricted in their psychosexual behavior because of the obvious limitations imposed by pregnancy.

However, beyond this, the sociobiologists are wrong. They forget that, just as the male sexual impulse is regulated by the constant production of testosterone, the female sexual impulse is regulated by her mentrual cycle. During the ovulatory phase of this cycle, when testosterone reaches its maximal level during peak fertility, accentuated by such visual stimuli as male bilateral symmetry and other behaviors which elicit cues for female submissiveness to male dominance, the woman experiences a significantly greater impulse towards sex which vastly exceeds even the constant physical impulse which characterizes the male sex drive, intensified all the more because of its cyclical periodicity. This can easily be demonstrated by the fact that a woman, once she has focused her attention upon a suitable object of her affection by virtue of the testosterone spikes of her menstrual cycle, will risk anything, including poverty, possible disfigurement and a lifetime of male emotional and physical abuse, to be with the "right" man. In addition, let us not forget the influence of the biological clock upon female sexual behavior; as a woman approaches menopause, her decreasing fertility can modulate her mating psychology to such an extent that she becomes sex-mad, becoming far more motivated to seek out copulation than males of the same age.

This can be seen in the modern "cougar" phenomenon, as well as cetain anecdotes dating from the nineteenth century, some of which were recorded by the Victorian sexologist von Kraft-Ebbing; many of these anecdotes, doubtless true, tell stories of women under the grips of a violent passion attacking and fondling random men in the street, one after the other in fact, and with a superhuman strength which could only be produced by this vile affection, disrobing our unfortunate victims so as to forcibly insert their flaccid members into that foul and nasty smelling black hole of death; stories of women who would insert anything into their slimy, pus-filled vaginas to sate their violent sexual urges; women who needed to be bound hand and foot, immediately hospitalized and clitoridectomized because they posed a clear and present threat to the safety of the more civilized male. Of course, thanks to the gradual diminution of sexual repressiveness that was brought about by the emancipation of the female libido from the iron shackles of patriarchy, the nymphomaniac who once posed a danger to public law and order has become an anachronism; one can now see the chaos and disorder of female concupiscence in all its resplendent glory, a chaos and disorder which permeates all facets of today's mainstream media.

So, from the foregoing, one can see that, although men constantly desire sex, women desire it but once a month in conjunction with the periodic hormonal fluctuations of the menstrual cycle; however, when the female is compelled to seek out copulation by virtue of her oestrus, her desire for it at that moment vastly exceeds any male desire by leaps and bounds.

Also, it should be obvious that women enjoy sex far more than men, who are essentially frigid and sexless beings compared to the female. Whereas male sexual enjoyment is only mediated by one or two regions of the body, notably the penis and quite possibly the prostate, the female body, by virtue of the undifferentiated and diffuse nature of her sexuality, constitutes a single erogenous zone. This means that the female is capable of enjoying sexual pleasure by stimulating any region of her body. She could simply rub her hands together if she wanted to achieve orgasm; she could play with her nipples, voluptuously squeeze her thighs or caress her abdomen, easily reaching the loftiest heights of a most intense ecstasy. The capacity for multiple orgasms in woman is well-known; physiologically speaking, males possess an oxytocin-induced post-ejaculatory erectile refractory period after the achievement of orgasm, which means that the sexual capacity of the male is extremely limited. Women are characterized by no such limitation, and have been known to copulate with hundreds of partners in succession until finally being satiated. Indeed, whereas a man needs only a few minutes to fulfill his need for sexual release, for the average woman, many hours, sometimes even days are needed before she is finally satisfied. Numerous stories of such women have existed throughout history, such as the Roman Empress Messalina - eventually put to death by Claudius - who was renowned for her sexual olympics with teams of drooling male studs. Also the many "gangbangs" one can find on video are sufficient proof of the ubiquity of female sexual insatiability.

As a final note, it must be added that sexual intercourse is a violent, repulsive, primitive and barbaric act; and women, being violent, repulsive, primitive and barbaric in both disposition and character, are naturally suited to having a greater sex drive and a greater enjoyment of copulation. Men are pure of soul and heart, and are naturally the colder sex when it comes to things erotic. Only men are truly beautiful, and therefore because of their greater aesthetic appeal, their natural inclination towards chastity cannot be sullied by such an immature and ridiculous act, provided his participation in that wicked act is limited to ejaculation for the sake of propagation of his issue and nothing more. Objectively considered, when conducted between male and female or adult males, sex is sick, unclean, vulgar and nasty. Only the paiderastia of Plato's Symposium , with its emphasis on self-restraint and chastity, can redeem the sex act by gently illuminating the ethereal mysteries of the Infinite, fusing together our lovers' souls in mystic union as they gradually become enveloped in a pure and sexless aesthetic contemplation of male beauty.

BG, excellent reply.

Maybe just post-Christian culture. The view that women were creatures of lust and that men were sexually cold beings by comparison was also quite common during the Middle Ages. For example, the Lamentations of Matheolus , written about 1295:

And Jean de Meun's continuation of the Romance of the Rose , written between 1268 to 1285:
