Christian Weston Chandler (b. 1982) is the author of the online comic series Sonichu.  Work on the series began with issue #0 in 2004, and was abruptly abandoned in 2009 with issue #11, which remains incomplete.

Mr. Chandler proudly identifies as high-functioning autistic, and is fascinated with video games and other forms of entertainment for the “young at heart.”  He created his signature character, Sonichu, on March 17, 2000, during a class assignment in his senior year of high school.  Upon being forbidden from using images of either Sonic the Hedgehog or Pikachu, Chandler cut this Gordian knot by conflating the two characters into a new, original creation.  He spent much of the next decade seeking to publicize this brilliant concept, in the hopes of having it adapted into video games and animated cartoons.

A self-proclaimed “virgin with rage,” Chandler has never had a true romantic relationship and is desperate to experience one.  In 2003 he began a “Love Quest” to find true love.  His preferred  means of attracting potential mates (loitering in public places while holding a sign describing his intentions) proved controversial with mall security, the police, and the administration of his community college.

In 2007, Mr. Chandler’s antics at his local hobby shop, the Game Place, led to information about him being supplied to the notorious forum 4chan, as well as the troll wiki Encyclopedia Dramatica.  Chandler was outraged by the resulting “misunderstandings and mislabelings” and attempted to have his article on ED removed.  In a devastating demonstration of the Streisand Effect, the harder he attempted to stop trolls from mocking him, the worse the problem became.  By the end of 2008 Chandler’s efforts to stop Encyclopedia Dramatica had resulted in him being banned from the Game Place and his family church; the estrangement of his closest friendship; a scheme in which a fake admirer seduced him into surrendering his beloved Sonichu medal; the circulation of nude photos he sent to an “admirer”; and the expansion of ED’s “Chris-chan” article into an entire subculture of websites dedicated to trolling him.

Since 2009, Chandler’s life has centered around the trolls in one form or another, whether he is fixated on defeating them or being manipulated by their deceptions.  He has been taken in by no less than six different trolls posing as potential love interests, and he has repeatedly been convinced that various parties wish to either capitalize his Sonichu venture or infringe upon it.  Throughout these misadventures Chandler has developed his own conspiracy theory about the forces aligned against him, masterminded by the fictitious “Clyde Cash” and “Surfshack Tito” and based out of the hobby shop that banned him.  By the end of 2010 his desire to avoid these menaces outstripped his interest in achieving internet fame, and he made a concerted effort to withdraw from his online life.

In October 2011 Mr. Chandler and his mother were arrested on multiple charges following an attempt to gain re-entry to the hobby shop from which he believes his ongoing misfortunes originated.  As of March 2012 they are both awaiting criminal and civil trials regarding the altercation.
